The LM338K STEEL/NOPB is a adjustable three terminal positive voltage regulator in 2 pin TO-3 package. This regulator is easy to use and require only two resistors to set output voltage. Careful circuit design has resulted in outstanding load and line regulation. A unique feature of LM138 is time dependent current limiting. The current limit circuitry allows peak currents of up to 12A to be drawn from regulator for short periods of time. This allows LM138 to be used with heavy transient loads and speeds start up under full load conditions. The LM338 features thermal overload protection and safe area protection. Overload protection remains functional even if adjustment pin is accidentally disconnected. No capacitors are needed unless the device is situated more than 6inches from input filter capacitors. An output capacitor can be added to improve transient response while bypassing adjustment pin will increase the regulator's ripple rejection.
